Our Governance Structure

Our Governance Structure

Our governance structure is democratic, participatory, and inclusive, reflecting the diversity of stakeholders within the sustainable food ecosystem. We will include representatives committed to driving change and innovation including NGOs, academia, grocery retail and food service industries, representatives of the F&B industry, farmers as well as eco-labeling initiatives, technology providers, and consumer groups, ensuring all voices are heard and considered. The board will comprise representatives from all key stakeholder groups and will be chaired by an individual independent of industry interests to maintain impartiality and integrity.

We envision that the board will consist of voted and delegated board members. Each sub-stakeholder-group will vote one board member and one deputy board member. Some organizations will get the statutory right to delegate a board member and a deputy board member.

We plan to set up a scientific committee consisting of leading experts in the space who have to agree with a majority vote on methodological proposals.

  1. Decision-Making through Majority Votes: The governance structure of our coalition emphasizes a democratic and inclusive approach to decision-making. The board, representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the sustainable food ecosystem, will make decisions based on majority votes.
  2. Inclusion of Statutory Board Members: We are inviting statutory board members from leading orgnizations for example representing consumers, retailers, farmers, and F&B brands due to their significant influence and strong support from key stakeholders within the food system. Their involvement ensures that the coalition benefits from a solid foundation of expertise and leadership, facilitating effective advocacy and implementation of our goals at both industry and regulatory levels.
  3. Organization of Sub-Stakeholder Groups: To maintain a participatory and representative governance structure, stakeholders are organized into sub-stakeholder groups based on their specific interests and areas of expertise within the sustainable food ecosystem. These groups engage in internal discussions to align on their priorities and challenges. Subsequently, each group votes to elect a board member and a deputy board member who will represent their interests and perspectives at the board level. This process ensures that all relevant voices are heard, and contributions are made from a position of informed consensus, enhancing the coalition’s ability to address the complex challenges of sustainability in the food system.
